How we started
Grow, Learn, and Inspire
At Roots & Boards, we believe that the best way to learn is by doing. Our pilot programs were designed to inspire passion for gardening and woodworking while equipping participants with practical skills they can use in their own lives.

Latest Community Build:
TCAP Denton Benches
Our latest Roots & Boards community build is officially complete! Over the past several weeks, participants came together to learn, build, problem-solve, and create benches that will serve the Denton community. We’re grateful for everyone who gave their time, energy, and support to make this project possible. As we wrap up 2026, we’re already looking ahead to what’s next, our first community build of 2027 is planned for February, and we can’t wait to keep creating opportunities to learn practical skills while building something that matters!
Explore Our Journey Towards Creating a Community Where Skills, Confidence, and Connections Grow
Our journey began in 2025 with community information sessions held at a local coffee shop, where we shared the vision for Roots & Boards and connected with people interested in learning and volunteering. In spring 2026, we launched our first gardening pilot, followed by the completion of our woodworking pilot in summer 2026. Beginning in fall 2026, we will offer paid one-day gardening and woodworking workshops where all the profits will go to our next community build. Our longer four or six-week workshops will remain free/ donate if you can. These extended programs will focus on building practical skills while creating projects that benefit the community, including food pantry boxes, picnic tables, and other small builds that support people in need.
